Professional Preparation

The Exercise and Sport Science Program places a strong emphasis on professional preparation and students gain valuable professional experience through the required internship program.

Students are encouraged to use the resources of the Harrington Center for Career and Academic Advising, where they can meet with a counselor to explore career options, internship opportunities and graduate schools.

Athletic Training majors complete field experiences at Colby-Sawyer's affiliated athletic training sites, which include a local college, private schools, and a hospital/clinic setting. Students are responsible for all field experience expenses related to criminal background checks and transportation costs.

Students may opt to complete an internship of their own choosing with permission. Sites of student-arranged internships include the New England Patriots, Portland Sea Dogs baseball team, Concord Orthopedics, and the Furman University Athletic Department.

Exercise Science internships have recently included therapy aid at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, personal training assistant at Fitness Together Brookline, cardiac rehabilitation/exercise physiologist intern at Central Maine Medical Center, rehabilitation assistant at HealthSouth, exercise laboratory intern at Children's Hospital Boston, research assistant at Dartmouth College ISTS, and practitioner/technical assistant at Bayside Podiatry.

Sport Management majors have worked with professional and amateur organizations such as the Los Angeles Dodgers, Dartmouth College, the College of the Holy Cross, Foxboro Stadium, Portland Sea Dogs, Colby-Sawyer College, New Hampton School, Kearsarge Regional High School, Boston Celtics, YMCA of New Canaan, Wachusett Mountain, Indoor Action Sports Development Center, Summit Sports and Events, New Hampshire Phantoms, Manchester Monarchs, Portland Pirates and San Jose Earthquakes.

Several internships have led to full-time positions.
