Arrival / Early Arrival Information for January 2014

December, 2013

Dear Students:

The college's Early Arrival program has been altered for spring semester to allow for greater flexibility for students. All students should read this message, which will provide an overview of these changes and how they may affect you.

Early Arrivals

The early arrival period will begin at 9:00am on Sunday, January 5, 2014.

  • Affiliated Early Arrival Students (students who are required to return to campus early by a college department or program) will be provided with their arrival date and other instructions by their program leader. You should confirm that your program leader has completed and submitted an Early Arrival Department/Program Authorization Form that includes your name and arrival date.
  • Voluntary Early Arrivals (students who are not required to return to campus early, but are international students or students who need to return because of local employment) may choose their arrival date, and will be assessed a housing fee of $75 per week of early arrival housing.
  • Off-Campus Residents (students who reside in college-owned/leased off-campus houses) are permitted in residence beginning on January 5, 2014 at 9:00am, per the terms of their housing lease. These students must follow the procedures outlined in their lease to notify the appropriate offices of their presence in off-campus housing. Please contact Julie Crisafi Lynch directly if you are an off-campus resident and have questions.

Meals will be available in the dining room for a cost. Some affiliated early arrival students will have that cost paid for by their department/program. For other early arrival students, individual meals may be purchased by using SmartCard funds or with the purchase of a Voluntary Board Plan. Affiliated early arrival students should contact their program leader directly with questions about meals.

All early arrival students (with the exception of off-campus residents) must complete and submit an early arrival application through the Residence online housing system by clicking here:

Please note that if you are not an approved early arrival student, you must not be on campus until January 19, 2014, otherwise you and your host may be held in violation of the Temporary Housing Contract and the Code of Community Responsibility.

Courtesy Arrival Day

The residence halls will re-open at no cost for returning students with travel concerns on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 9:00am. Students must be cleared to return (financially, medically, etc.) prior to their arrival. The terms of the college's Temporary Housing Contract (see below) will be in effect for all students until 9:00am on Monday, January 20, 2014, when the college officially re-opens.

Temporary Housing Contract Terms:

  • Students who are approved to arrive early to campus may not possess or consume alcohol on campus. This includes students who are 21 years of age.
  • Students who are approved to arrive early to campus may only have other approved students visit their rooms.
  • Students who are not approved to arrive early to campus may not be on campus during this time period. Residential students who host non-approved students, even roommates, will be charged with “guest responsibility” and any other policy violations that may apply.
  • All students who have signed the Temporary Housing contract are expected to review and adhere to all of the policies outlined in the Code of Community Responsibility.
  • The board plan is not in effect. Students who return on Sunday and wish to eat in the dining room must pay for each meal.
Check-In Day

New students, transfer students, and students entering housing should plan to arrive on Monday, January 20, 2014 beginning at 9:00am.

All regular college policies and the full student board plan will resume beginning at 9:00am on this date.

If you have any questions about this information, please contact the Offices of Student Development. Have a safe and restful break, and we look forward to seeing you in January.
