My classes stress the interconnectedness of knowledge. A recent Fulbright fellowship provided the opportunity to work with undergraduate and graduate students at Kyoto Seika University in Japan. My teaching at Colby-Sawyer College is enhanced thanks to this experience.

Are Parent Orientation Programs included in the New Student Orientation Program?
How should my parent/guest(s) and I dress for the orientation activities?
Orientation is September 2-5, 2011.
Classes begin on Tuesday, September 6, 2011.
You will arrive on Friday, September 2, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. for check-in. Commuter students need to check in and should park in the Hogan Center parking lot. Resident students should park near their residence hall. You will check-in at Wheeler Hall in the Ware Campus Center.
Orientation is your formal introduction to the Colby-Sawyer community. During these days, you will have the opportunity to meet faculty, staff, and students and begin to make life-long friends, learn about your community responsibilities, establish yourself in the intellectual life of the campus, find out about people, places, and programs, and have fun and prepare yourself for discovery!
All new first-year and transfer students planning to enroll in full-time at Colby-Sawyer.
Information about orientation will be available at check in.
There is a Parent Orientation Program on Friday, September 2nd.
A notebook, pen or pencil to take notes or write down questions and a back-pack or bag may be helpful to carry your orientation materials.
Orientation activities are casual, so dress for comfort (especially your shoes-there will be some walking involved!). Don't forget a light jacket or sweater. It tends to get cool. You may also want to bring an umbrella...just in case!
The meal plan for new students begins with lunch in the dining hall, on the lower level of the Ware Campus Center, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2011.
You will have a number of occasions to buy your books before classes begin on Tuesday, September 6th.

Yes, all students are eligible to bring and register their vehicles at a cost of $50.00 per academic year. First Year and transfer students should be aware that parking is limited and your decision to bring a vehicle on campus should be made accordingly. Parking assignments are developed using an academic credit system, thus all first year students, sophomores, and members of the junior class registering vehicles may be assigned to Lot K (which runs adjacent to Mercer Field). You will receive information about registering your car during Orientation.
Your room will be equipped with a bed, dresser, desk, and desk chair for each resident.
No, you are not required to own a computer at Colby-Sawyer, however, last year well over 90% of students brought computers. The college provides newly equipped computer labs conveniently located in Colgate Hall and the Library/Learning Center. In addition, there are a number of computer equipped classrooms and specialized mini-labs. Each computer lab is equipped with a high duty-cycle laser printer for students to use.
The college recommends the Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system, but Windows 2000 or XP Home Edition will work. All student computers must pass through a certification process before receiving their internet connection. All students are entitled under the Microsoft Campus Agreement to receive a free copy of Microsoft Office Professional Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) for his or her personal computer. The College also provides free anti-virus and anti-spyware software for Windows systems and which are required to connect to the internet.
All Colby-Sawyer students are provided a computer and email account (user ID and password) for the duration of their enrollment. One Ethernet data port per student is provided in all dorm rooms, however, Internet connection through these ports is provided only to computers that meet security requirements. If you don't have your own computer, you can use your user ID and password to log on to any College lab computer. Macintosh computers running OS X can access most network resources including internet. New students receive computer and email account information during the summer.
Your campus mailing address is 541 Main Street, New London, NH 03257. Mail is sorted alphabetically, so there is no need to include your hall or room number. All residential students are assigned mailboxes and are expected to pick up their mail on a regular basis. You will receive your mailbox combination when you check-in for Orientation on Friday, September 2, 2011.
Voice mailboxes are provided for all students, including commuter students, at Colby-Sawyer, so you won't need to bring an answering machine. You will receive your voice mail number and information that describes how you access your messages during Orientation. Because many faculty and staff members use voice mail to transmit information, it is essential that you check your messages daily.
