code of community responsibility

As members of the Colby-Sawyer community, we are entitled to an inclusive and caring, living and learning environment. Students, faculty, and staff members alike can feel comfortable knowing Colby-Sawyer is a community founded on mutual respect and support. To this end, we have adopted the Code of Community Responsibility to articulate the college's standards for behavior. Colby-Sawyer College is much more than a group of individuals. We are a community. Therefore, a unique set of responsibilities is expected of each of us.

We are expected to temper our personal freedoms with respect for the rights, dignity, self and property of others in the community. We are expected to involve ourselves as part of a unique whole whose shared vision is the development of personal and interpersonal excellence; to join creatively in attaining that vision. We are expected to read, think about, and question our Code of Community Responsibility. As members of the Colby-Sawyer community, Colby-Sawyer College students are required uphold the Code of Community Responsibility and are responsible for knowing the published policies and procedures of the college.

The standards published in the Code of Community Responsibility outline the conduct expected of community members on campus or in college owned or leased property and when engaged in activities that represent Colby-Sawyer College whether on or off campus.

The Code of Community Responsibility is established in consultation with student representatives, faculty and administrative staff. Policies within the Code are reviewed annually and the entire Code of Community Responsibility is reviewed every three years.

The policies that make up the Code of Community Responsibility can be viewed utilizing the navigation in the left sidebar. Individual policies can be printed directly from your browser for future reference. If you need assistance accessing the Code of Community Responsibility, please email Robin Burroughs Davis, Associate Dean of Students and Director of Citizenship Education.
