The Club Recognition Ceremony, which was created by the Campus Activities Office in 2001, provides an opportunity for student clubs, their members and / or their advisor to be recognized for their positive contribution to the Colby -Sawyer College community during the current academic year.




Purpose
  • To recognize student leaders, clubs, and advisers with awards of excellence.
Objectives
  • To identify to others those individuals or clubs that perform at high levels.
  • To provide an incentive or reward system to encourage involvement in the campus and outside communities.
  • To assist in retention of club members/volunteers.
  • To raise the standards of individual members or clubs.
  • To promote excellence among all campus clubs and/or student leaders.
  • To recognize outstanding achievement and contribution to the Colby-Sawyer College community.
  • To assist administrators in guiding the developmental growth of individuals and clubs.
Criteria and Procedure

1 - Eligibility
  • Clubs who qualify for this honor must be in good standing with the Senate Clubs and Organization Committee and the Student Government Association Allocations Committee.
2 - Criteria
  • The student, club or adviser must make a significant contribution to the campus community.
  • The student, club or adviser must exceed the normal duties and expectations of the club.
  • The student, club or adviser must contribute to the activities of that clubs and/or the community.
3 - Who May Nominate?
  • Any member of the Colby-Sawyer College Community
Awards Recognizing Individuals

* ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD

This award is open to any student, regardless of class standing, status or age, who has stepped up their participation during their first year in the organization. It will be given to the student that is a shining example for all new group members.

* COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

This award will recognize a student for their excellent service to the community through volunteerism, fundraising and philanthropy. This person has had a significant positive impact on the campus and greater communities, both in their hours of dedicated service and in spirit.

* EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBER OF THE YEAR

This award is given in recognition of a club officer whose dedication and service demonstrates excellence in the campus community. This officer has devoted countless hours to the purpose of the organization, its leadership, and its members.

* ADVISOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

This award is given in recognition of the Club Advisor whose dedication to advising, counseling, and support strengthens the organization and its members. The Advisor of the Year has been active in helping the Club/Organization to achieve its goals.

* FACULTY/STAFF APPRECIATION AWARD

This award will be presented to a Colby-Sawyer faculty/ staff member who has demonstrated a strong ability to support student organizations in their functions BUT IS NOT a student organization Advisor. The Faculty/Staff Appreciation Award will be given to the faculty/staff member who has shown the most dedication for, passion for, and investment in the student organization community as a whole.

* MEMBER OF THE YEAR

This award will be presented to one member who has been a pinnacle of involvement and leadership among the student organization community. This person should demonstrate leadership qualities and positively contribute to the purpose of the organization with their creativity, time, and effort.

Awards Recognizing Programmatic Achievements

* CAMPUS COLLABORATION AWARD

This award is open to any event or program, occurring between April 2005 and March 2006, in which two or more recognized student organizations have “collaborated.” Together these organizations exemplified the spirit of teamwork and provided an opportunity for growth among their members and the campus community.

* EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM OF THE YEAR

This award is for an outstanding educational program or series of programs occurring between April 2005 and March 2006. This award is given in recognition of the program that not only represents the spirit of the organization, but also effectively supports and advances the six learning outcomes of Colby-Sawyer College. The program should draw the Colby-Sawyer community together and enrich the dialogue on campus.

* PROGRAM OF THE YEAR

This award is for an outstanding program or series of programs occurring between April 2005 and March 2006. This award is given in recognition of the program that not only represents the spirit of the organization, but also successfully draws the campus community together. This program should be well planned, creatively advertised, and fun for all!

Awards Recognizing Organizations

* THE PHOENIX AWARD

This award will recognize the student organization that has shown the most consistent improvement over the past year.

* NEW STUDENT ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR AWARD

This award is for the new student organization that has demonstrated excellence in programming, leadership, and overall organization enthusiasm during their first years. *Organizations are considered a “new” organization during your first two years of existence.

* ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR AWARD

This award is given in recognition of the Club/Organization that has made a significant impact on the campus community. This club exemplifies student participation and leadership by offering creative programs, fundraisers, community service, and opportunities for membership and growth.
