“My group's Capstone was certainly a culmination of our learning experiences. We were able to apply what we'd learned from our classes, internships, and practical experience hours and tackle a problem on our own.”
John Bosse, Exercise & Sport Sciences
All full-time faculty and several staff members are academic advisors. Academic advisors confer with their assigned students at regular intervals throughout the year.
The advisor helps each student select courses, monitors academic progress, and recommends activities to support the student's interests. The advisor can suggest referrals for additional support, such as the Academic Development Center and will talk with the student about career planning. The advisor will also help the student to understand the academic standards and policies.
Each student is assigned an advisor before entering Colby-Sawyer College. An advisors is assigned based upon the student's intended major. If the student is unsure about his or her major an advisor will be assigned who can help discover areas of interest that will lead the student to a major. The Harrington Center for Career Development can also help the student explore areas of interest.
Students can change advisors and, if necessary, the Office of the Academic Dean can help.
