All full-time faculty and many staff members are academic advisors. Academic advisors confer with their assigned students at regular intervals throughout the year to discuss course selection, academic goals, and post-graduate plans.
The advisor helps each student to select courses, monitor academic progress, and recommend activities to support the student's interests. The advisor can suggest referrals for additional support, such as the Academic Development Center, located in the Library/Learning Center and will talk with the student about career planning. The advisor will also help the student to understand the academic standards and policies.
Each student is assigned an advisor before entering Colby-Sawyer College. An advisors is assigned based upon the student's intended major. If the student is unsure about his or her major an advisor will be assigned who can help discover areas of interest that will lead the student to a major. The Harrington Center for Career and Academic Advising can also help the student explore areas of interest.
Students can change advisors and, if necessary, the Harrington Center for Career and Academic Advising can help.
