the tutors

As students who have been selected to be Student Academic Counselors, the tutors at James House are committed to helping CSC students achieve their academic potential and to doing so in ways that are respectful and positive.

We work with students one-to-one, providing course-specific tutoring or assistance in writing papers. We are available for regularly scheduled weekly appointments or as needed. These services are free to CSC students.

First Principles for Student Academic Counselors

We will approach each student with respect and work to create a relationship of mutual respect.

We will engage in dialogue that involves the student in the learning process.

We will affirm what the student understands and does well.

We will help the student prioritize his/her needs or concerns.

We will suggest options for dealing with areas of difficulty.

We will keep in mind the ultimate goals of the Academic Development Center: to assist students to achieve their academic potential and to become more confident and competent learners.
