Campus Safety Alerts

In the event a situation arises, either on or off campus, that, in the judgment of the College's President, Senior Staff and/or Director of Campus Safety, constitutes an ongoing or continuing threat, a campus wide “timely warning” will be issued.

Anyone with information warranting a timely warning should report the circumstances to the Department of Campus Safety, by telephone (526-3300) or in person at James House.

On April 27, 2014, at approximately 12:25 A.M., a resident of Burpee Hall reported that a white male, wearing glasses, had tried to gain access to the room through the window. The window had been closed, but not locked at the time of the unauthorized access. When verbally confronted by the resident, the suspect fled.

Later the same day, at approximately 12:50 P.M., another Burpee Hall resident reported that a male, wearing thick glasses, with short dark hair, a green hoodie, and dark pants had been observed trying to look into the resident's first floor window. The suspect was also seen looking in other ground floor residence hall windows.

The New London Police Department has been informed and the incidents remain under investigation.

Students, faculty and staff are advised to be aware of their surroundings and exercise prudence by practicing the following personal safety measures:

  1. Always lock your door. Whether you are in your room, "just down the hall for a minute", or out of the building, always keep your door locked. Resident students, ask your roommates to do the same. If your roommate is taking a nap when you leave - lock the door.
  2. If your windows are accessible from the outside such as in a basement, first floor or adjacent to a fire escape, lock your windows.
  3. When walking on campus use the buddy system or contact Campus Safety and request a safety escort.

If you notice any suspicious activity, do not confront the individual but immediately contact the Department of Campus Safety at x3300. As always, dial 911 in the event of an emergency.
