“At some point, [Theatre Director] Jerry Bliss said, 'I need someone to light a show.' And that's how I was thrown into the world of technical theater.”
-Technical Director Gregg Carville '95
NEW LONDON, N.H. October 21, 2008 The Chargers celebrated Senior Day with a 1-0 win over Curry on a cold and rainy Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Abby Wills (Uxbridge, Mass.) scored the game-winner on a breakaway in the 65th minute. The Chargers improved their TCCC record to 6-5, and 7-7-2 overall, while the Colonels drop to 6-4-1 in the TCCC and 9-5-2 overall.
The Chargers offense put continuous pressure on the Colonels' defense in the first half, mustering eight shots. Senior Elise Kapp (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) had multiple scoring opportunities, but could not sneak one past goalkeeper Nicole Haywood (Marshfield, Mass.), who finished the afternoon with seven saves.
With the rain beginning to fall, Kapp handled a clear ball from the Chargers defensive end and volleyed a beautiful chip over the defenders onto the foot of Wills. Wills did the rest as she placed the ball past Haywood, who had come out racing for the ball. The Chargers defense, led by junior Eileen Endyke (Derry, N.H.) preserved the shutout. Senior goalkeeper Christina Quirk (Milford, Conn.) picked up her 12th career shutout and made five saves.
The win gives the Chargers 18 points on the season and places them in the middle of the playoff picture with two games remaining. Colby-Sawyer will travel to Dudley, Mass. to face Nichols on Saturday, October 25 at noon.
