NEW LONDON, N.H. November 12, 2008 - Colby-Sawyer Athletic Director Debi Field-McGrath announced today the hiring of Jody Bergstrom as the new Head Coach of the women's lacrosse program.
Bergstrom, who spent her first year at the helm of the Chargers' women's soccer program this past fall, is the 12th women's lacrosse head coach in Colby-Sawyer's history. She takes over for Courtney O'Sullivan, who resigned from the Head Coach position earlier this month.
We are thrilled that Coach Bergstrom will also be directing our women's lacrosse program. She has already demonstrated high standards and a commitment to excellence coupled with a true concern for each and every student-athlete, said McGrath.
Bergstrom is familiar with the role of coaching multiple varsity sports at the NCAA level. She was the Head Women's Lacrosse Coach and Head Women's Soccer Coach at Trinity College in Washington, D.C. She has already found success here at Colby-Sawyer as she led the women's soccer team to their fourth straight TCCC Tournament appearance with a 7-6 conference record.
Last season the Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team posted a 6-10 overall record and a 5-5 record in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The team qualified for its fourth consecutive postseason, earning the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament. In the quarterfinal round, the Chargers lost a hard fought battle to Western New England, 17-14.
The Chargers open their 2009 conference schedule at home on March 21 when they host Salve Regina.
