Men's Track & Field Captures Second TCCC Invitational Crown, Women Finish Third

WENHAM, Mass. - April 26, 2008 - The Colby-Sawyer men's track & field team won 15 different events on their way to capturing their second consecutive The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Invitational Championship Saturday afternoon. The women's team captured four first-place finishes en route to taking home third.

Matt Cole (Sturbridge, Mass.) and Brian Saad (Dudley, Mass.) earned three victories each for the Chargers while Ryan Laperle (Brooklyn, Conn.), Jon Chaloux (Barre, Vt.) and Sean Ahern (Delmar, N.Y.) each added two event victories and Ian O'Leary (Reading, Mass.) and Tyler Murdoch (Lyme, N.H.) each added a win for the Chargers.

Highlights of the men's victories included Saad, who won the discus throw by 30 feet with a toss of 130'. He also won the hammer throw with a toss of 109'09”, 53 feet farther than his next closest competitor. Chaloux's victories included a 167' toss in the javelin and clearing 5'10” in the high jump.

On the women's side, Amber Cronin (Buxton, Maine) was a double winner for the Chargers in both the 400m (1:04.5) and the high jump (5'). Margaux O'Connell (Braintree, Mass.) was the other individual winner for the Chargers, picking up a win in the long jump with a distance of 13'11.5”. The Chargers 4x400 women's relay team also notched a victory, posting a time of 4:33.1.

Several Chargers will next be in action on May 2-3 as they compete at the New England Championships, hosted by the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.
