With a 12:1 average student-faculty ratio, 24-hour access to studios on campus, and integration with the other liberal arts programs on campus, the Department of Fine and Performing Arts offers unlimited possibilities to explore and develop as an artist through its programs in Art History, Graphic Design and Studio Art. Additional courses and experiences in dance, music and theatre are available.
Art History…
The Art History Program offers two options: a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History, and a minor in Art History that can be combined with any major.
Graphic Design…
The Graphic Design Program offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design.
Studio Art…
The Studio Art Program offers a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with concentrations in ceramics, painting, photography, printmaking or sculpture, as well as a minor in Studio Art that can be combined with any major.
Performing Arts…
The 650-seat theater in the Sawyer Fine Arts Center hosts student theater productions and the Colby-Sawyer Singers while the Dance Studio is home to ballet, jazz and modern dance classes, and the Colby-Sawyer Dance Club. Music appreciation and courses in applied music are offered.

Sawyer Fine Arts Center…
The Sawyer Fine Arts Center includes studios devoted to study in ceramics, graphic design, printmaking and sculpture. The center also houses the Marian Graves Mugar Gallery, the Everett and Ruth Woodman Dance Studio, the Sawyer Theatre and stagecraft shop, and offices for the Fine and Performing Arts Department.
