Your work... is to resist the easy answer, to seek out the truth... just as the author's work is to face the blank page with faith and optimism.
Humanities Instructor David Elliott
The Department of Fine and Performing Arts emphasizes an extensive, studio-based curriculum, a diversity of style and creativity, the cultivation of critical judgment, and the development of historical perspective. Students pursuing the arts at Colby-Sawyer find an array of impressive resources supporting them, including well-equipped studio and performance facilities, small class sizes, and a dedicated faculty. The program introduces students to contemporary artistic and professional issues and promotes an atmosphere balanced between conceptual development and material exploration.
Colby-Sawyer offers B.A. and B.F.A degrees in the following studio concentrations: Ceramics, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture.
The program also offers a B.A. degree in art history.
For students in majors outside of the department, minor degrees in all studio concentrations, Art History and Studio Art are also available.
