William Davidow to speak on the power of the Internet, the miracle and curse of our daily lives...

Adventures in Learning members, along with the general public, are invited to attend William Davidow's free lecture on Wednesday, October 5 at 4:00 p.m. at Colby-Sawyer College's Clements Hall in the Curtis L. Ivey Science Center. Davidow, who is married to Colby-Sawyer alumna and former trustee, Sonja Carlson Davidow '56, will speak on the promise and threat of the Internet, the subject of his recent bestselling book, Overconnected: The Promise and Threat of the Internet.

Davidow calls the Internet the steam engine of the information revolution and its freight the varied collection of stock trades, e-mail, video, and retail transactions carried over high-speed, low-cost data communications systems. Though the introduction of the internet has created great opportunities, such as economic growth and increases in productivity, the high level of instant connectivity sometimes creates an out of control devastating momentum -- witness the accentuated meltdown across the world during the 2008 Financial Crisis. In his upcoming lecture Davidow will delve into the unanticipated effects of the Internet and suggest practical corrections to tame the threat of hyperconnection.

Davidow, an electrical engineer by training, has earned degrees at Dartmouth College, the California Institute of Technology (CIT), and Stanford University. Bill, a former Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Intel, has been a Silicon Valley high-technology industry executive (Intel, Hewlett Packard, and GE) and venture capital investor for more than 30 years. His community involvement extends to serving on the boards of CIT, Stanford Institute of Economic Policy Research and the California Nature Conservancy. Davidow is a frequent international speaker and author of numerous books including The Virtual Corporation and Marketing High Technology. In addition, he continues to act as an active advisor to Mohr Davidow Ventures, a venture capital firm.

Mark your calendars now and watch for further information about this highly informative and timely lecture on a subject which impacts our lives, for good and bad, on a daily basis.
