What do you enjoy most about the area?
I love how quaint the town of New London is- the quality of life is really wonderful here. We only have one blinking traffic light in town! I also love how the local restaurants and businesses support our students by accepting the “Smart Cards” (the Colby-Sawyer College ID card,) offering discounts, employment to our students, and staying open later during exam times. There are a few places I frequent and they usually know my order before I even say it. Both the town of New London and the Colby-Sawyer College community are close knit. My husband is a Colby-Sawyer graduate, and some of his former professors and various other staff remembered him nearly 10 years after he graduated. You don't find that kind of caring support everywhere.

What advice can you give a prospective student about the college search process?

Stay organized and ask a lot of questions. For each college that you either visit or inquire about, create folders. I recommend creating both paper and virtual folders for brochures and e-mail communications. Organize everything in there and keep a list of deadlines, visit events and contact information. This way, you can easily access the abundant information you've received. If you are reading this and you are an international student, we know that this process is unique for you and it is likely that the first time you see the campus will be when you arrive for move-in day as a full-time student. Please do not hesitate to ask us questions. We are here and happy to help assist you in this process! We'd also be happy to put you in touch with current international students (possibly from your home country,) or professors to connect you to various parts of our community.

What is your favorite area on campus?

My favorite area is right in between Mercer Hall and the Hogan Sports Center. There is a phenomenal view of the mountain range that still, ten years later, takes my breath away. Each time I walk past it, I stop and take a deep breath. It reminds me how big the world is and yet how connected we all are. I feel lucky to live in such a beautiful place.

Something about myself:

Two things I'm known for loving: the beach and the Eiffel Tower. If you come to visit my office, you will see several photos on display of just a few of my favorite beaches, mostly from New England. I love the beach anytime of the year and it is the best place for me to rejuvenate both mind and body. I have loved the Eiffel Tower since I was 13 years old and have dreamed of visiting it ever since. In the fall of 2010, I was lucky enough to travel to Paris for my work with international students and I fulfilled my dream. I was in awe and loved how you could see it from all over the city, as if it was always with me anywhere I went. Along with my beach photographs, you will also see Eiffel Tower statues and pictures in my office!
