“Colby-Sawyer people are really nice to be around, and the professors are great. Some of the classes have really changed my life, and I didn't expect that.”

What do you like about the area?
Coming from a small country town myself, I genuinely appreciate the natural beauty of the area. There is an abundance of outdoor entertainment here- hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, and more. Even if you don't consider yourself an outdoors person, there always seems to be something fun and healthy to take part in. Along with the natural aspects of this area, I can truly say that the people add to the draw of the region. Everyone is friendly and considerate, and you are sure to feel welcome here.
What advice can you give a prospective student about the college search process?
My biggest piece of advice when diving into the college search process is to not limit yourself in where you decide to look. It's important to look at all types of schools that vary in location, size, population, and other factors that differentiate colleges from each other. Often times, visiting a campus can completely change your perspective of a college and end up giving you a better sense of what features in a school best fit you. Never be afraid to ask questions to get the most out of a visit.
Above all, try to make the whole process a fun experience; when you have a clear mind, it's much easier to retain the important aspects of each school.
What is your favorite area on campus?
Although I haven't had much time to spend there myself, I really enjoy the library. I have never been to another library or campus building anywhere else that has a barn silo for an entrance! The inside is beautiful as well with its aged pine walls and large windows with a view of Mt. Kearsarge. Besides being aesthetically pleasing, it's a great place for students to find a spot to relax and study. There are open areas with tables, hidden nooks, and many other spaces for students to find a place to fit their needs.
Something about myself-
I grew up in a rural town in Connecticut, and even though I looked at various colleges, I found that staying in the New England area at a school with a small-town feel was right for me. I spent four years completing a degree in Elementary Education and Spanish at Keene State College and ended up staying there working for the Community Service Office as an AmeriCorps volunteer. During that year my true passion for community service and working with students in higher education was developed.
Although I have generally stayed true to my New England roots, I had the chance to study for a semester in Seville, Spain as well as volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in Guatemala. I encourage all students to take advantage of the opportunity to study in or visit a foreign country; you will learn and grow in ways you never would have imagined.
