Why did you choose Colby-Sawyer?

I heard about Colby- Sawyer from a friend who is studying at Dartmouth. My goal for the college was to meet people from all over the world, to enjoy cultural diversity and to make new connections that will contribute to my academic and professional career. Colby-Sawyer, contrary to other colleges, offered me a financial aid that made it possible for me to fulfill my dream. Additionally, the College has a pre-vet program that I was interested in. Lastly, I was impressed by the amount of international students, a detail that played an important role in my decision to come here.

Who is your favorite professor and why?

My favorite professor is Ben Steele head of the natural science department. He teaches with great passion; When he talks about birds, one can see a sparkle of enthusiasm in his eyes and this passion is contagious. Most of his classes take place outside, in the wild. For me, it has been a great opportunity to get familiar with the local wildlife, climate, and vegetation, which are completely different than those in Israel. The campus is surrounded with forests, swamps and lakes. For the biology and environmental science students it is a playground for learning.

What is something that surprised you about campus once you were a student?

The willingness of teachers to help students surprised me. Teachers are always willing to help and there is a personal connection between students and teachers. I think it is an important quality that bigger colleges cannot afford.

What is one thing you want an international student to know about campus life?

I would want potential international students to know that campus life is very inviting, and even if they have reservations about being able to fit in, they will probably be shocked at how fast they will find friends. It is very easy to feel at home at Colby-Sawyer, no matter how far you are from home.

What is your favorite event on campus?

The international festival is undoubtedly my favorite event on campus. This festival is a celebration of diversity where students from different places around the globe represent their countries, their customs and traditions in an exciting and joyful manner.

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

Adjusting to the cold weather has been a big challenge for me as a former Mediterranean resident. However I have learned to accept it and even started to appreciate it. The sight of the campus covered with snow is breathtakingly beautiful in my opinion.
