Celebrating 175 Years Together
Friday, Oct. 12, 2 to 4 p.m. – Sargent Common, New London
Colby-Sawyer College and New London area community members are invited to “Celebrating 175 Years Together,” a festive event that features a dramatic reenactment of the signing of the charter on July 4, 1837, that established the original New London Academy; addresses by college and community members; music; historical games and displays; the planting of the 175th anniversary tree; and a big, beautiful birthday cake for everyone to enjoy.
Please mark your calendars and join us for this historic celebration! Bring your lawn chairs if you would like a seat.
Friday, Oct. 12, 9 p.m. – Meet at the bandstand on the Town Common
Join us for a historical nighttime tour of Colby-Sawyer College’s campus, both old and new, led by the Cleveland Colby Colgate Archives and the Colby-Sawyer Players. Learn about the history of the buildings, the campus and the founding families. And of course, no October tour would be complete without sharing some of the legends and ghost stories connected with the college.
175th Anniversary Oral History Project

Have a favorite memory from your time at Colby-Sawyer? Want to share your story? Students will be roaming campus to chat with alumni about their experiences at Colby-Sawyer. Look for students wearing buttons that say, “Tell Me Your Story – the Colby-Sawyer College Oral History Project.”

Archives’ 175th Anniversary Celebration
Saturday, Oct. 13, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. – Susan Colgate Cleveland Library/Learning Center Archives
Stop by the Cleveland, Colby, Colgate Archives to see photographs and memorabilia from this year’s reunion classes. College Archivist Kelli Bogan will be on hand to discuss new exhibits in the college’s online archive, Haystack, including our newly digitized film collection. Learn how to share your materials and memories through the Archives. And don’t forget to look for the archival exhibits available around campus throughout the weekend.
Our Voices, Our Town: The History of New London, New Hampshire from 1950-2000
Saturday, Oct. 13, 1 p.m. – Clements Hall, Ivey Science Center
In honor of Colby-Sawyer’s 175th Anniversary celebration, Professor of Humanities Ann Page Stecker, New London historian and author of Our Voices, Our Town, a History of New London, New Hampshire 1950 -2000, will share her knowledge on a diverse range of topics, from local folklore and ghosts, to the genesis of our dynamic town/gown relationship.

As part of Alumni Fall Festival, alumni and college community members are invited to a dance party at the Coffin Field House. The Nines band will provide the musical entertainment. Cash bar. Admission is free.
